Pre-Visit Checklist for At-Home Veterinary Care
Here are some tips to ensure a smooth, comfortable, enjoyable veterinary visit for your pet!
Gather Medical Records: Ensure you have all your pet’s medical records ready, including vaccination history, previous visit summaries, and details of any medications they are currently on. This will help Dr. O’Brien to provide the best possible care during the visit. If possible, please email the records to MyCompassionVet@gmail.com prior to the visit.
Designate a Safe Space: Choose a quiet, comfortable area in your home where the visit will take place. This space should be familiar to your pet and free from distractions. Clear the area of any unnecessary items to give the veterinary team enough room to work.
Stock Up on Essentials: Have some of your pet’s favorite treats, toys, and a blanket nearby. These items can help comfort your pet during the exam or treatment. If your pet tends to get anxious, you might also consider having a leash, muzzle or crate on hand. Dr. O’Brien will have muzzles available if your pet shows signs of severe anxiety.
Prepare Your Questions: Write down any questions or concerns you have about your pet’s health. This ensures that you make the most of your time with Dr. O’Brien and address all your concerns during the visit.
Communicate Special Needs: If your pet has specific behavioral tendencies, like anxiety or aggression, let the veterinarian know in advance. This allows them to prepare and ensures a safer, smoother visit. Fear Free medications may be prescribed to help keep your pet happy and comfortable during their treatment.
Minimize Distractions: Keep other pets and loud noises at bay during the visit. Inform family members about the appointment so they can either be present or give the space needed.
Practice Calming Techniques: If your pet is prone to stress, consider using calming techniques before the vet arrives. This might include playing soothing music, using a calming spray, or giving them a calming treat.
Post-Visit Care: After the appointment, give your pet some quiet time to relax and recover. Monitor them for any signs of stress or discomfort, and offer them a favorite activity or treat to help them unwind.
By following this checklist, you'll help ensure a stress-free and successful at-home veterinary visit for your pet. We look forward to serving your pet.
See you soon!
